Laminate flooring is constructed with a high density wood-based core, a protective coating top layer, printed paper graphic, and balancing bottom layer. There are 2 main categories of Laminate, Traditional and Water-resistant.
Traditional Laminate: Features a standard High-Density Fiberboard (HDF) core made of compressed wood fibers. This core is highly susceptible to moisture absorption and will swell, warp, and get permanently damaged if exposed to standing water for an extended period.
Water-Resistant Laminate: Utilizes an HDF core that is specially treated with water-repellent resins and waxes or is made from a denser composite material, making it much less likely to swell when exposed to moisture.
