Kempas(Indonesian Cherry)
Kempas, also known as Indonesian Cherry, is very similar to Brazilian Cherry. On the Janka Hardness Scale, Kempas ranks at a 1720, but hardness does not mean durability. Due to the tight grain and smooth surface of Kempas, it tends to show scratches more easily than more open grained products such as Oak. It is a highly photosensitive hardwood, meaning with exposure to UV-light (sunlight) the product will darken. When first milled the product is a reddish/brown color and overtime deepens in color. Kempas has a large range of color consisting of lighter tan boards and darker red boards.
