Brazilian Cherry(Jatoba)
Jatoba or Brazilian Cherry is the most popular imported species given its inherent beauty, rich coloring and superior hardness. It is a highly photosensitive hardwood, meaning with exposure to UV-light (sunlight) the product will darken. When first milled the product is a tan color with black striping and over time darkens to a rich, deep red color. On the Janka Hardness Scale, Brazilian Cherry ranks at a 2350, but hardness does not mean durability. Due to the tight grain and smooth surface of Brazilian cherry, it tends to show scratches more easily than more open grained products such as Oak.
